Obituary:

Verdell Mosley

September 7, 1949 - April 4, 2021

Verdell Mosley, of Fairlawn, Ohio, passed away on April 4, 2021 after bravely battling cancer for a short while. So today, we celebrate her life; precious wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

Verdell Mosley, age 71, was born on September 7, 1949 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Tommie Lee Allison, Sr. and the late Margarette E. Allison, who preceded her in death. She was the 5th child of 8 born to this union.

Her parents always believed that all things were possible as long as God was at the forefront of your life.

Verdell graduated from John R. Buchtel High School, Akron, Ohio, in 1967. Soon after high school, she began her career at City Hospital, now Summa Health System, taking on various roles until her retirement after 33 years of service.

Verdell had a genuine love for people. She was affectionately known to many as ‘Lil Bit’ and was often referred to by her close family and friends as our own “Florence Nightingale”, as she  measured her life on being available to help anyone when they were in need. She always put the needs of others FIRST even if it meant denying her own needs. She was truly our angel.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Otis Taylor and Alfred T. Allison; brother-in-love, Dwight E. Young and sister-in-love, Debra Lynn Allison.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 24 years, Melvin Mosley; two daughters, Alicia Dianne (Gerald) Jones and Delorse Lynn (David) Murray of Columbus OH; five stepsons, Rudolph Jones of Charlotte, NC, William (April) Jones of Winston-Salem, NC, Samuel (Shaneak) Mosley, Donald (LaTret) Mosley and Daniel (Terriann) Mosley of Wilmington, NC; 3 grandchildren; 18 step grandchildren & 2 step great grandchildren; four brothers, Ashanti (Jennifer) Allison, Edgar Allison, James Allison and Michael J.   Allison; one sister, Mary Young; special cousins, William (Sue) Taylor and Arthur Chappel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved her as much as anyone can be loved.

BEVERLY LEE - April 10th, 2021
I can hear Tyrone say, 'beat cha', and Verdell saying, 'surprise!'  With love, from classmate, Beverly.  I will miss you both at any  of the Reunions we celebrate in the future.

Baldwin was born in Tazewell, Virginia, and attended Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on scholarships for baseball, football and soccer. He signed with the Detroit Tigers as an undrafted free agent in 1972 and received his first call to the majors in 1975 when a thumb injury ended Tigers outfielder Mickey Stanley's season. Following the season, he was part of a blockbuster deal in which he and pitcher Mickey Lolich were traded to the New York Mets for Rusty Staub and Bill Laxton.[2] He spent the 1976 season with the Mets triple-A affiliate, the Tidewater Tides, and joined the Mets when rosters expanded that September. He batted .292 over nine games with the big-league club.
