Leon Friedman, beloved hus band of 64 years to Rose, father of Jackie, Merle, and Pam, grandfather of Jill, Joy, Jodie, Arnie, Wendy, great-grandfather of 13 1/2 yrs., brother of Robert, uncle, and friend, died peacefully at his home in Westlake Village, California on Tuesday, July 19, 2005.
Leon was a well-respected member of the Akron communi ty, spending 37 years as a history teacher at Richfield and Buchtel High Schools, assistant principal at Buchtel High School, and Director of Personnel/Community Relations for the Akron City School District, serving as an advocate in education for all members of the community.
He worked three jobs to sup port his family while building a career as a teacher and administrator, and achieved his Doctorate in Education from Case Western Reserve Universi ty.
After retiring from the public schools, he worked for the Metropolitan Housing Authority and Cutler Realty.
He was a member of the Akron Jewish Center, Beth El Synagogue, Temple Israel, and the Macabees.
Six years ago, Leon and Rose moved to California to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Leon was warm, loving, caring, and generous not only to his immediate family, but to children in the schools, at the Akron Jewish Center where he was program and summer camp director, and at home.
Leon will be remembered and celebrated for his accomplish ments and his dedication to his family by all who loved him. He was a man of values - love, honor, integrity, and purpose and we celebrate him and a life well-lived.
Memorials in his honor may be made to a favorite charity.
