David J Dave Shriber
1949-04-01 2016-08-07
David J. Shriber, 67, passed away after a long illness with his loving family by his side.
The Night may have been cloudy but there was always a light shining on Dave.
He was born April1,1949 to Gerald and Genevieve (Moulder) Shriber. He lived most of his life in the Akron area,
leaving for a few years with his family to live in San Diego, California. After those years, he was always
California Dreamin'. Dave had lived the last 30 years in Bath Township.
He was a member of the Buchtel High School Class of 1967 and attended The University of Akron, Kent State University,
and Iteso University, Guadalajara, Mexico. He always told people to Be True to Your School. He was a member of
Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
As an accomplished guitarist, during his high school years, he played in the popular local band the Couriers.
Dave was a friend to all and anyone he ever met. But most of all Dave was a family man. He learned that
All You Need is Love, and he found love in his wife, three children, and two granddaughters.
Part-time architect and carpenter, he was still working on the addition to their house that was started in 1994.
For 20 consecutive years on the Christmas card Dave boasted that he was 'almost done' with the same remodel.
Dave had several careers, most revolving around sales, insurance and trade shows. He was one of the
early employees of the International Exposition (I-X) Center, eventually becoming Vice President of Sales.
In that capacity, he was recruited to be President of the John S. Knight Center in Akron.
He opened the center on time in a very short time frame by working 8 Days a Week. He was also instrumental in many
other projects and companies, serving as Director of Public Relations for GeneSyst International,
owner of Shriber & Company, founder of Black Diamond Marketing, and President of Partnership Publishing Company, Inc.
Dave was an idea man, incredibly creative and God Only Knows what his inspiration was for so many new projects.
Most notably he was the mind behind GuitarMania in Cleveland.
The beautiful, giant guitars around Cleveland and beyond would not be there without David Shriber.
Ten foot tall, fiberglass Fender Strat-o-casters were decorated by artists and auctioned off for charity.
For Dave, it was a Long and Winding Road that lead to him being a part of three rounds of guitars that raised over $2 million
for United Way.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Peggy (Moore); sons, Ben of Copley and
Alex of Columbus; daughter, Chris of Toledo/Akron; and his beautiful granddaughters,
Elise and Laura. He is also survived by brother, Steve (Sharon) Shriber of Stone Mountain, Ga.;
sister, Barb (Pat) Moore of Medina, and stepsiblings, Georgia Beaven, Allen (Barb) and Marshall Rodgers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, William Rodgers.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the
Catavolos Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Fairlawn, Ohio and a time of visitation on Friday, August 12th
from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Inurnment at Moore Chapel Cemetery, Bath Township, Ohio.
