Ruthie Mae James-Moss

Ruthie Mae James-Moss was born May 12, 1948 in Minter, Alabama to Mammie Aldora Hood (who preceded her in death along with JJ Hood and Kathy Lyn Hood). Ruth graduated from Buchtel High School and went on to receive a degree in Business Administration from Barberton College. In (1965) she gave birth to her eldest son, Anthony James.

Ruth married Michael Moss on October 3, 1969 and from that union gave birth to 3 children: Christopher, Michaela and Charlene.

Ruth was a member of The Helping Hand Social Club and The Starlite Social Group and was instrumental in organizing countless fund raisers to assist the less fortunate. She was also a member of Mt. Zion and Antioch Baptist Church before continuing her faith through televised worship.

In 1981 she made the decision to move her family to Michigan. Ruth made a career of assisting those who were mentally challenged and disabled through her work with the Judson Center. She enjoyed going to Canada to play bingo with her Cousin Nell and the racetracks with her good friend Ruth Overtree, and pushing that button on the slots with The Helping Hands and The Starlites Social.

Ruth loved her family and lived her life without regret! She was most proud of spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them grow up.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Anthony James of Ohio, Christopher, Michaela and Charlene Moss of Michigan; grandchildren, DeAndre’, Christopher, RaGina, ReGinae’ and Regi’ Auna; great-grandchildren, DeAisa, DeAndre, Jr., Chandler and Ashton; sisters, Aldora Patten of Georgia; brothers, David (Cheryl) Hood, Ulysses (Melinda) Powell of Ohio, and a host of family and friends.

Her laugh was infectious and especially laughing at her own jokes. She also enjoyed having a dance royale aka twerk contest with her great-granddaughter. You could always depend on her kicking you underneath the table at the family dinners and pointing her finger at you. Ruth continued to spread her love and laughter through her final days.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more deaths or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things that has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
