Obituary

The value of a persons life should be measured by the amount of lives they change.  Nina was only a mother to three, yet she impacted a multitude more.  Her character and wisdom have aided many.  Her devotion and commitment to her husband fostered a family environment rooted in love and founded on loyalty.  During the course of the years they spent together, Nina became a pillar in her husband's family.  She grew to become someone whose opinion and counsel was well respected.  The personal relationship that she shared with each of her grandchildren was extremely unique.  There was nothing she enjoyed more than having her house filled with them, and a good bottle of wine.  Her seemingly ever present reach did not stop there, her nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws have all spent time at Nina's House.  Everyone knew her doors were always open to those in need. She was so many things to so many people. Whether you called her Wife, Mom, Sister, Daughter, Nana, Ms. Nina, Mrs. Taylor, or friend, you knew you were calling on an extraordinary woman.  Through these selfless acts, she cemented an everlasting legacy.

Of all the beautiful qualities Nina possessed, none outshined her faith in Christ.  This was the magnet that drew everyone to her.  If there was a time of adversity and someone was seeking advice, she would undoubtedly point them back toward God.  She was a proud servant of her Lord and Savior, never ashamed to proclaim his glory.  New Bethany Family Worship Center has been her church home for the past sixteen years.  She previously was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, as well as The Living Christian Fellowship, pastored by her son Richard.  Despite losing many people that were very dear to her, she never lost faith in the Lord.  In times of great despair, she would often say "Nothing is bigger than God."  Let us be reminded of those words today and every day, as we move forward toward God's everlasting grace.  Nina was called home by the Lord on December 3, 2020, while at home surrounded by her loving family.  She is survived by her husband, Richard Taylor, her three sons, Richard, Dinard, and Eric, daughter-in-law Kelly, four grandchildren, Patricia, Richard, Miyah and Yahna, three great grandchildren, Jaiden, Jordan, and Aniyah as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.  She was predeceased by her sister Patricia McDaniel.

Nina Marie Taylor, 71.  Nina graciously entered the world on May 10, 1949 in Akron, OH, to parents Dinard. Jack Felton and Dellavena Jackie Coles.  Her parents played a pivotal role in her life, teaching her the value of family as well as working hard.  Her father adored her and never missed an opportunity to display his love for her.  Her mother was a nurse at Akron's Children's Medical Center for 46 years and rarely missed a day of work.  Nina would later carry this same drive and consistency into her career.  Due to her Mother's work schedule, Nina often spent time with her grandmother, Vashti Coles, a strong and determined woman of God.  Vashti was the source of her faith and unwavering compassion for others.

In her adolescence, Nina attended Buchtel High School.  This period would prove to be a monumental time in her life.  She was a good student and participated as a majorette.  It was also in these halls where she met her husband of 51 years.  She cultivated her love for learning and graduated in 1967.  She continued her education at FAMU and later earned a degree in early childhood development.  Education was her calling and her passion for changing the lives of children was always evident.  She began her career in education at the Jewish Community Center in Fairlawn, OH, where she held a position as a teacher.  Nina relocated to Las Vegas, NV and continued teaching at Hallmark Pre-School and Kinder Care before being promoted to administrative positions at Imagination Plus and Merryhill Pre-School.  Nina earned various acknowledgements, awards, and accolades during her time as a teacher and principal.  Nina retired on June 1, 2017, after deciding she wished to spend more time with her family.

Nina's life constantly demonstrated her love for children, but none more than her own.  If you knew her, you had to know about her boys, as she so affectionately referred to them.  She shared in every accomplishment, failure, triumph, and defeat with her three sons.  She encouraged, corrected and most often, listened to them.  She was always present for every special occasion or ordinary phone call.  There was no limit to Nina's love for her sons.  Her boys were her inspiration and the light of her life.
